(or: we are only safe, when everyone is safe)
The challenge of global vaccination justice is now more urgent than ever. In Europe, more and more people have been fully vaccinated and have started to return to “normal” life. Meanwhile in the countries of the global south, the rates of Covid infections continue to rise and different virus mutations are imposing even bigger threats to the people. Therefore, we cannot neglect the question of how a worldwide distribution of the vaccines and accessibility for everyone can be achieved. Most prominent in this context is the debate about patent rights and whether the patents on vaccines should be opened for countries in the global south. What are the different assessments on this topic and what possible solutions and approaches are proposed?
The workshop will be held in English.
